Yesterday I spent the day in DC shopping with my friend Steve. He owns a second home in the district and has had renters in it for quite some time, but he’s now done with that and is looking forward to enjoying it himself. It will mostly be a weekend home for him since his job & primary home is in Warrenton Va (he works at my salon) here ( we really need to update our website!)
In the last few weeks he has had carpenters and painters in there sprucing it up. Hes adding crown molding, chair rail, shadow boxes & bead board, as well as having the entire house painted white!! We were excited to see the progress & I thought you’d enjoy some before & during pics (can’t really say after because he still needs to refinish the floors, change lighting & furnish) but here’s where we’re at so far…
A few pics of the colors before paint, some of the moldings are already added here…
Living room

Dining room ( all the box molding just got installed)

And how it’s looking so far, with fresh white paint & new moldings…
Living room

Dining room ( sorry about the poor quality pics) I was rushing & as you know I’m always using my iPhone!

Stairs/hall ( notice all the box moldings that were added and white stair treads)

My dog Sammy wishing he was outside

Kitchen….the breadboard was added in here ( love the vintage light fixture)

We chose to leave all the exterior doors and pocket doors wood…they were too beautiful to paint! I didn’t get any pics of the upstairs bedrooms or bathrooms which is a shame because the master has an exposed brick wall which was stunning with the white paint, and the bathroom has a claw foot tub & black & white tile …so neat, but next time I visit I will take more pics! We were both very happy with the results so far. It still amazes me what paint can do. Next he’s having the floors refinished, and we need to get some pretty crystal chandeliers for living & dining room.
After seeing everything,we decided to walk to Georgetown from here, it’s about a 30 min walk & the weather was unusually warm so why not enjoy it. I couldn’t help but take pics of some of the beautiful homes

All these gorgeous painted homes made me start thinking about my own exterior….can’t wait to see it repainted! I wonder what color i will end up going with? Im almost dreading that decision…its hard enough picking something for the interior, and at least you know You can cange that! The outside is a one time deal…better get it right the first time. It’s probably gonna be another year at least because the kitchen has got to be gutted & redone first! Oh the projects never end!

This vintage garden putti came off of a Georgetown estate. It almost came home with me but I had to refrain…this girl needs sofas!!! Speaking of sofas…..I didn’t have any luck yesterday. The fabric I was drawn to was going to cost me $5000 a sofa!! I guess I will keep looking. We had a great day all in all and I got lots of inspiration. We stopped for my favorite Chinese dish for dinner, shredded crispy beef….oh so divine!

I swear I could eat that every night!!!
That’s all I’ve got for now, enjoy the rest of your weekend
H~
