I am just now getting around to posting about Darryl Carter’s new retail boutique that opened up in DC’s Shaw neighborhood this fall. I was there on opening day and it did not disappoint. The shop is located at 1320 9th St NW ( which just so happens to be a short walk around the corner from my friend Steve’s DC row house that I posted about here)

Darryl had the entire exterior & interior of the building painted a shade of white from his new paint color line available through Benjamin Moore here

This daybed, hyde & giant concrete lion greet you upon first entering

But what really steals the stage is this massive stone arch salvaged from an old Maryland estate. It had to be moved in pieces and reassembled with steel reinforcement to support it (please excuse the blurry pics)

Behind it are built ins made from salvaged doors & drawers from the butlers pantry at Dumbarton House, a Georgetown landmark. Displayed inside were various one of a kind handmade china, glassware, utensils and such.

Down the hall and in various rooms the art made you stop and stare. Darryl has a way of turning the most interesting items into art.

His retail studio is even equipped with a full working kitchen, Viking range and all!

Love all the clean lines in his sofa collection

And so many wonderful linens to pick from for the upholstery

One of Darryl’s design tricks is using printed linens on the reverse for a very subtle hint of color and pattern. This works well with his signature pale monochromatic look

Upstairs was mostly beds and linens
I highly recommend stopping by and checking it next time you are in DC….

You may even get to meet the design celebrity in person ![]()
He was very sweet, charming and humble! He suggested we take the pic “in front of something sexy”

Ooooh! I am so jealous! I absolutely love Darryl Carter…he is one of my favorite designers. I bought several pieces of his Thomasville line of furniture before they discontinued it. His new boutique looks amazing. I am so happy you were able to meet him. Thanks for sharing the pictures!
I’m jealous that you own a couple if his pieces! I wish I had know that Thomsville was gonna discontinue them, I would have gotten some myself!
I was lucky to purchase them when I did…got the Rollins dining table, the Savannah poster bed and a room screen. It’s unfortunate they discontinued the line so quickly. He had a few of his pieces on sale through One Kings Lane a few months back but I missed it! Maybe he will have a sale again through OKL, so be on the look out!
Yes I saw the sale one One Kings Lane & am kicking myself that I didn’t purchase a few things! I will be on the lookout as well

SOOO impressive! Love all the painted brick and the sofas with one cushion seat. All great elegant neutrals that he is known for….a must stop next time I am there.
