Brimfield

Well….. The only tent worth checking out in Brimfield was the one from Lone Ranger Antiques
And according to him, all his best stuff was gone the first day

Ahhh…. I’ll take # 83! He’s the only thing I’m bringing back home & he’s priceless :)
Happy anniversary honey & thanks for taking me here. We learned that its not worth coming at the end of the show (which I thought would be the case) …. It starts Tuesday and it looked pretty wiped out by Saturday. It’s hard to tell from these pics but trust me when I say everything else looked pretty sad.

Lessen here….. Come early or don’t come at all! Have a great weekend everyone

I have a (hair) client who’s moved to this area from Texas & she mentioned she was opening a French antique shop in Middleburg. So I have been patiently waiting for it to open. I happened to have some free time the other day so I drove out there to see how it was coming along. She (Connie) was in Costa Rica on vacation but the shop was fully stocked & ready to open its doors any day. I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek since I tried the door & it was open….they were sweet enough to let me look around & take photos. I also met Connie’s partner in this new venture, the great Kathy Alexander who owns Rousset Antiques & Textiles here (which is now part of The Gray Door) in Houston Texas. FINALLY…..one of Houston’s great antiques textiles dealers is in Virginia…I cannot contain my excitement!!! I love antique tapestry pillows & fortuny….exactly what she specializes in….& of course French antiques. I discovered while talking to her that I had actually purchased one of her pillows a couple of years ago from 1st Dibs! What a small world! And how am I going to save any money with all these gorgeous finds so close to me now???
The shop is called Foxfire Gallery & Antiques and it is located in a gorgeous building on Main Street in Middleburg Va

The shop is full of French antiques, tapestries, pillows, lamps, fortuny lampshades & artifacts

Kathy told me this knole sofa in the next picture had been in her husbands family for many years and had even made it through hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. It’s now covered in a luscious vintage Fortuny…and the pillows are also Fortuny
Her daughter was lucky enough to have this in her apartment ( before it was recovered )

There was a huge trunk nearby full of her beautiful pillows. Did you know she is good friends with Becky Vizard of Bviz ( also famous for her antique pillows )

And before I left, Kathy pulled out this fabulous huge strip of vintage Fortuny. She had 3 of these I believe….I was thinking what wonderful window treatments these could be…

She wasn’t selling these though… Can’t say I blame her. Make sure to check out this fabulous shop next time you are in Middleburg…. You won’t regret it!!

I did an earlier post about the popularity of barn sales here, and one of my favorites is Ekster’s barn sale in Hamilton Va. They were open this past weekend and I went with a few friends. It was four of us total, so we took 2 vehicles (which is a good thing we did because I needed both to bring back my purchases! Ha!) All of us have recently purchased or are in the process of purchasing new homes, so it was fun to help each other with design ideas.
Ekster Antiques is owned & operated by Caroline Verscoor and Jon-Paul Saunier. You can read all about them & their fabulous barn sales here

Barn sales

Hello everyone! Sorry I haven’t posted in a while but not much has changed around here & I don’t like posting pics of unfinished spaces. I still haven’t gotten anywhere on finding someone who can install my antique limestone mantel :(….. It’s frustrating to say the least!
I thought I’d post about the popularity of barn sales in the northern Va, DC & Md areas. I don’t know what part of the country you live but it’s become quite a great way to buy antiques & such around here.
The first one I ever went to was held by Caroline , owner of Ekster Antiques. I first discovered her wonderful Belgian furnishings & accessories when she had a storefront in Leeesburg Va. It has since closed & she now opens her barns on her property for big sales every few months whenever she has a new shipment. Here’s a few pics of items available at her next sale Sept 28-30

20120920-164147.jpg

20120920-164205.jpg

20120920-164220.jpg
You can see more pics of what’s available here

Another barn sale that’s quite popular is
chartruese & co located in Frederick Md. They are open monthly every 3rd Fri-Mon
You can see pics here
Frederick is a great place to spend the day, lots of great shopping & restaurants. After checking out Chartruese, you can drive a few miles from there down a pretty country road to Stylish Patina, yet another barn sale!
And if that’s not reason enough for a day trip, Frederick is only minutes away from Old Lucketts Store in Lucketts Va. Not exactly a barn sale but similar finds! So….. Fall would be a great time to check one or all of these out! I’m thinking about going to Eksters for sure. I’d love to hear your feedback….is this a trend in your neck of the woods?

Lucketts Design House

I left early this morning with a friend to go to Lucketts Design house in Lucketts Va. This little area is just outside of Leesburg & has several old houses & barns full of antiques & reclaimed furniture. (mostly newer stuff actually, with that reclaimed look) The Design house in particular is only open one weekend a month & they usually repaint all the interior rooms & fill it with new inventory every month. They are even nice enough to dip paint sticks in their custom paints so if anyone wants to copy a color, you can take one to your local paint shop & have it color matched!
Here’s a link to their site here
Thought I’d share some of my pics from today…

Melaine, I was thinking of you when I saw these curtain panels…hope you found some!!
Ok…that’s it for now guys! I managed to walk away with only the baskets. Truth is I don’t really need much, and I’m taking a break from buying things for the house…I need to save up for my big kitchen Reno, or master bath Reno…….or….repainting the exterior of the house! I do need curtains & bamboo blinds…..well, maybe not need but WANT…. Those will have to wait a while too :(
Anyhow, if you live nearby & haven’t been to Lucketts, check it out! It’s worth the drive.
Have a great weekend! I’m having a small pool party here tomorrow…enjoying what’s left of summer!

So…we are totally up to our necks in boxes packing…. The house is in such disarray, but I find myself still trying to “decorate”! The only room that even somewhat looks inhabitable is our great room. I begged the hubs to bring in one of the Swedish looking chests I purchased at Lucketts (yes… I said “one” because I went back the next day and bought the 2nd one & that fabulous chandelier!) Oh my… Who shops when they’re getn ready to move??

20120524-175121.jpg
Yes, I know… The lamps are the wrong scale and I will not use them on there but for now we need light in the room. I also brought out some of my new herbariums … Just so I could enjoy a few of my new purchases until we move! I’m having beautiful surroundings withdrawal…. I need my pretty spaces back!

20120524-175713.jpg
Speaking of shopping…. We are currently en route to Restoration Hardware outlet for their big memorial day weekend sale….. LOL! Am I the only one who shops two weeks before moving??
Have a great holiday weekend!

What a gorgeous day! A perfect day to hunt for fabulous antique treasures & that’s exactly what I did at the annual Lucketts antique fair in Leesburg, Va. I got here bright and early , an hour before the gates open, but as always there’s already a line forming.

20120519-180735.jpg
There were several booths set up on the outside of the gates so I had to do a little poking around while waiting….

20120519-180942.jpg
Loved this concrete cherub….it’s pretty large…thought it might look cool hanging on the brick wall around the pool or somewhere else outside so I bought it!

20120519-181206.jpg
Then I spotted this Swedish looking chest….loved the simple lines and the soft gray wash. Don’t even know where this will go but found myself buying this too!

20120519-181433.jpg
OMG!!! Ok…..I’m really drooling now! This chandelier is GORGEOUS & quite large…. Where can I put it?? I have a huge two story foyer in the new house that I think it would be perfect for!…….but it needs to be converted so I’m feeling a bit intimidated…I better wait cause all this and I haven’t even gotten inside the gates yet! LOL

20120519-182059.jpg

20120519-182121.jpg

20120519-182131.jpg
Finally got inside and I headed straight to Eksters booth! She always has the best stuff. If you haven’t heard of it, Ekster used to be an antique shop in Leesburg Va, but Caroline (the shop owner) has since closed the shop and now she holds monthly barn sales out of her barn in Hamilton Va. This is becoming a new trend now & the prices are always great since there’s not all the overhead!

20120519-182523.jpg
Found this French bench there that I think will look great in my foyer

20120519-182652.jpg
Also decided I had to have this lantern..it’s about 2′ tall….very cool….will use it somewhere outside :)

20120519-183034.jpg
This booth had tons of painted furniture. It’s called Tuscany Designs & they have a shop in downtown Frederick Md. where that’s all they do…they have a space in the back where they hand paint everything in their signature look.

20120519-183315.jpg
Another cool booth

20120519-183347.jpg
Ummmmmm……yes…..I definitely pigged out! Shopping takes a lot out of ya….a girl’s gotta refuel! I’ll take a beef BBQ, fries & a water please (at least I was good with the water!)

20120519-183611.jpg
Found this booth where the woman had these hundred year old pressed botanicals that her husband framed using antique wood floor boards. Loved the organic feel ……I bought 6!
Well….. I think I did enough damage for one day, and my shoulders are getting a sunburn, plus I’m running out of room in the vehicle….so time to head out! I’d say I did pretty good. Got in and out in about 3 hrs & bringing home a bunch of goodies :) can’t wait to see them in the new house! I can’t stop thinking about that chandelier though……maybe I will go back tomorrow & see if it’s still there! I’ll probably get a better price on it if it is…….
Hope you all did something fun today too! Cheers!
